About Course

Module 2’s finale puts AI ethics on trial. Students examine the real COMPAS case – an algorithm used in US courts – debate what went wrong, and build their own case and solution.

COMPAS is a real, documented case, which is why it’s used here: students see that biased AI has already affected real lives. The final project asks them to do better – pick a case, propose a fix, defend it.

What students do
• Lights, Camera, Consequences: a case-study video on ethical issues in machine learning
• What Went Wrong with COMPAS – the biased sentencing algorithm used in US courts
• Ethics on Trial – Group Discussion on the dilemma and how to address it
• Final Project – Your Case, Your Solution; Final Reflection – Ethics Starts With You; Closing the Chapter

By the end, students can
• Real-world consequences of biased AI
• Structured debate
• Proposing practical solutions

Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Integration · Learning How to Learn.

Completes Module 2 of the 6–8 curriculum, with a certificate of completion. Part of Grades 6–8: AI Agents in Action, Module 2 – How Machines Learn – Patterns, Data & Bias, Week 4. Next lesson: AI Vision – How Machines “See” the World.
