6-8:10:AI Hearing & Voice – Machines That Listen and Talk
About Course
Meet the robot dog. Through a design walkthrough, students learn how sensors, movement and AI combine so a machine can interact with the physical world.
A robot dog is an ideal case study: it has to see, balance, hear and decide, all at once. Following its design shows students how the individual senses from earlier weeks combine into a working machine.
What students do
• AI Movement and Sensing: videos of Boston Dynamics robots, factory arms, delivery robots and robot vacuums – how do they avoid bumping into things?
• Meet the Robot Dog – Design Walkthrough: control unit, motors and joints, detectors and response triggers, with an ordering activity
• Virtual assembly and testing: watch each part connect, see how sensor input becomes a movement decision, and how bugs get fixed
• Understanding Sensors – touch, proximity, light, temperature – with examples from self-driving cars, drones and AI prosthetics, then Recap & Thought Prompt
By the end, students can
• Types of sensors and what they detect
• The sense → decide → act loop
• Robotics in everyday life
Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Foundational Knowledge · Integration.
Video and interactive content. Part of Grades 6–8: AI Agents in Action, Module 3 – AI Senses the World – Vision, Voice & Movement, Week 3. Next lesson: Combining AI Senses – Project Showcase & Future Impact.
