About Course
Who thinks faster – Alexa or a robot vacuum? Module 3 opens with edge AI, sensor fusion and the question of where intelligence should live: on the device, or in the cloud.
Module 3 moves AI off the screen and into the physical world. Students learn why a robot vacuum makes decisions locally while a voice assistant asks the cloud, and what that means for speed, privacy and reliability.
What students do
• Who Thinks Faster—Alexa or a Robot Vacuum? Brainstorm personal experiences with smart devices
• What is Edge AI? And Why Does It Matter? – where the AI logic lives, on the device or in the cloud
• Sensor Fusion – Seeing More Clearly Together, then Simulating a Robot Brain and a “Day in a Smart Home” design challenge
• When to Use Edge… When to Use Cloud?, a multiple-choice check, and Reflect – Who Decides, and Where? (convenience versus privacy)
By the end, students can
• Edge versus cloud trade-offs
• Sensor fusion
• How IoT devices form a smart home
Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Foundational Knowledge · Application.
Video and simulation-based lesson. Part of Grades 9–12: AI & You, Module 3 – Ambient Intelligence & Robotics, Week 1. Next lesson: AI-Powered Robotics – From Factories to Pets.
