9-12:01:AI & You: Innovate, Solve, Lead the Future
About Course
The grades 9–12 curriculum kicks off with core concepts and common misconceptions. Students learn that AI means machines performing tasks that usually require human intelligence – recognising speech, identifying faces, making recommendations – and how machine learning and data science make that possible.
High-school students arrive with strong opinions about AI from social media and news. Starting with precise definitions and myth-busting gives the class a shared, accurate foundation for the ethics, coding and robotics that follow.
What students do
• Short videos and infographics on AI, machine learning and data science, then a “What is AI?” mind map
• Myth or Fact? quiz: “AI will take all jobs”, “AI is human-like intelligence” and other common claims
• Journal: “What do I think AI can and cannot do?”
• Assignment: collect images, headlines and clips of AI in everyday life for next week’s collage
By the end, students can
• Precise definitions of AI, machine learning and data science
• Separate hype from reality
• The frame for the whole course
Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Foundational Knowledge · Caring.
Video and discussion-based lesson; about 45 minutes. Part of Grades 9–12: AI & You, Module 1 – Discovering AI – What, Where, and Why?, Week 1. Next lesson: Introduction to AI, ML, and Data Science – Basics and Myths.
