About Course
Module 2 is hands-on coding. In Google Colab – nothing to install – students refresh their Python, meet pandas and their first dataset, and train their first machine-learning model with scikit-learn.
This is the first coding lesson in the curriculum and it’s designed to be low-friction: Colab runs in the browser, the dataset is provided, and the first model is only a few lines. Students finish having trained something real.
What students do
• Setting the Stage: a machine-learning model in action, and “What tools do AI/ML engineers use?”
• Python Basics Refresher in Google Colab – variables, data types, control flow – with interactive content
• Meet Pandas and Your First Dataset: load and inspect data like a scientist; spot missing values and where the data came from (“garbage in, garbage out”)
• Your First Machine Learning Model with scikit-learn – train, predict, and Wrap Up
By the end, students can
• Python and pandas essentials
• Load and explore a dataset
• Fit and use a simple model
Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Foundational Knowledge · Application.
Some prior Python exposure helps but isn’t required. Works in any browser. Part of Grades 9–12: AI & You, Module 2 – Advanced AI/ML & Generative AI with Python, Week 1. Next lesson: Model Training, Evaluation, and Performance Metrics.
