6-8:03:AI’s Footprint – Society’s Benefits and Challenges
About Course
Module 1 closes with the relationship question: who does what better? Students compare like scientists, and confront what AI can’t really feel.
The comparison is done properly – with criteria, evidence and a fair test – so students practise scientific thinking while settling the question. The conclusion, that judgement and empathy remain human, frames Module 2’s ethics work.
What students do
• Big questions: “What does AI do better than humans? What do humans do better than AI?”
• Compare Like a Scientist: build a Venn diagram of human and AI abilities – logic, creativity, empathy, speed, memory, pattern recognition
• What AI Can’t Really Feel, with true/false: “What’s something you can do that AI will never truly understand?”
• Why It All Matters: group poster or presentation on “What have we learned about AI, and why does it matter?”, then a final quiz
By the end, students can
• The complementary strengths of humans and AI
• Empathy and judgement as human capabilities
• What a healthy human–AI partnership looks like
Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Human Dimension · Integration · Learning How to Learn.
Completes Module 1 of the 6–8 curriculum, with a certificate of completion. Part of Grades 6–8: AI Agents in Action, Module 1 – AI Agents in Action – What is AI and Why Should I Care?, Week 4. Next lesson: Introduction to Machine Learning Models and Data Quality.
