About Course

From assembly lines to robot pets: students meet the robots around them, learn how they actually work, dig into real case studies, and design a smart robot of their own.

Robotics is where AI’s senses, decisions and actions meet. Students compare industrial robots with consumer ones, then design their own – and confront the question of where robots should not be used at all.

What students do
• Meet the Robots Around You: videos of industrial robots and companion robots
• How Do These Robots Actually Work? – components, types, and where the AI is integrated
• Dive into Real Case Studies
• Design Your Own Smart Robot – a Robot Assistant for one task, deciding what AI it needs (vision to navigate, language to take commands) – then Where Should Robots Be? Where Should They Not Be?

By the end, students can
• Perception, planning and action in robots
• Industrial versus consumer robotics
• Design constraints and ethics

Learning focus (Fink’s Taxonomy of Significant Learning): Foundational Knowledge · Application.

Video, case studies and a design task. Part of Grades 9–12: AI & You, Module 3 – Ambient Intelligence & Robotics, Week 2. Next lesson: Building a Robot Dog.
